Pelvic Floor Therapy FAQs
Whether you’re curious about how it works, who can benefit, or what to expect during sessions, this resource is designed to provide you with the information you need.
What can you expect on your first visit?
Your pelvic floor therapist will conduct a thorough evaluation regarding your current condition and concerns through a review of your medical history and questions about your daily habits and routines, i.e. eating, drinking, voiding, bowel movements, sexual history, exercise, etc. Your therapist will first conduct an external exam of your posture, hips, abdomen, and pelvic floor muscles in order to assess how they affect your movement and pain in functional activities. Only with your ongoing consent, an internal exam will also be conducted to assess the movement of your pelvic floor muscles. We will review your findings and create a collaborative treatment plan based around your goals that may include: manual therapy techniques, external and potentially internal (only with continuous consent), home exercise program including exercises, stretches, and functional movements, education and additional resources for long term success!
How long will therapy take?
Our favorite answer to this: it depends! As much as we all would love to see immediate results, it may take some time depending on your situation. You should and will see progress typically within the first 2-3 sessions. A big part of therapy is not only what is done during therapy sessions but how much and what is able to be done at home! We strongly encourage and will help you to navigate how to fit in your home exercise program to continue to see progress each week ๐
Do you take insurance?
We are out-of-network providers with insurance. This means that we are unable to take and use your insurance for payment of services. This does allow us to provide higher quality and more holistic care. We do offer the ability to provide you with a superbill that you can use to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement or applied to your out-of-network deductible.
Can I use my HSA/FSA card?
Yes!
